COPE Class Requirement During a Divorce
Before a granting a divorce, involving children, or child custody order the Family Court will require parents to attend a parenting seminar. This seminar is commonly referred to as a "COPE" class. The class is designed to teach parents how to help their children handle the divorce and separation.
The seminar must be completed within 45 days of the initial filing of the Complaint or Joint Petition. Parties are not required to attend the course with each other. When the course is completed you will receive a “Certificate of Completion” that needs to be filed with the court.
